WEE DELIVER ELEMENTARY POST OFFICE
The Wee Deliver Post Office started in 1999 with a kit from the U.S. Post Office. We wanted a way to motivate kids to write for fun. We got uniforms from a real post office employee and my husband made a school mail box. We use donated envelopes and computer made stamps. The kids write an average of 300-500 letters each year.

Jobs in the Post Office
Postmaster: They remind the workers when it is their day to work. They will do any of the jobs when someone is missing. Facer: They count and put each letter in the right direction. Nixie Clerk: They check to make sure the address is written correctly. Canceler: They use the ink pad to ink out the stamp Sorter: They put each letter in the right box Deliver: They bring each letter to the right classroom and pick up any new letters. |
I meet with the 3rd graders and explain the different jobs. Then they fill out applications for the job they choose. They also take a test that I use to match them to their jobs. Then we visit the Winfield Post Office to see their jobs in action. |
